On November 15-17, 2021 in Lublin the workshops took place, planned within the framework of the project "Oral health education program for visually impaired children", on the methodology of work with visually impaired children.
The event, chaired by Prof. Renata Chałas was honored with the knowledge of experts – Prof. Bogusław Marek – a specialist in working with blind and visually impaired children and dr Lucia Zalčíková – Deputy Director of the Primary School for Blind Students and Primary School for Students with Communication Disorders, experienced in work with children with visual impairments.
The event was attended by 33 participants from Poland, Hungary and Slovakia. The groups consisted of experts from various fields: teachers, university teachers, dental practitioners, dental hygienists, and students. With their knowledge and experience, it was possible to discuss many aspects of the project from different points of view.
The meeting enabled the participants of the project to familiarize themselves with the specifics of working with visually impaired children from the perspective of the experience of representatives of individual countries, and enabled the experts from individual countries to present the problems related to everyday life, oral hygiene and education of visually impaired children.
The meeting resulted in a plan to implement the next steps:
- The design of a leaflet written in Braille for children,
- The design of a leaflet for parents/guardians of children with visual impairments,
- A script of an instructional video for parents/guardians and teachers on the methodology of teaching proper oral hygiene,
- A script for a sound recording for children on how to take good care of their oral hygiene
- A script for an educational campaign to be carried out simultaneously in Poland, Slovakia and Hungary.
